Save the Date: Scout Sunday 2023

 

Scout Sunday is an observance of the connection between Scouts BSA and its religious-oriented partners.  It's held each year on the Sunday preceding the anniversary of Scouting in America (February 8). So "officially" it's February 8, but large church organizations can schedule this day any day in February. The United Methodist Church (organization) has officially scheduled it for February 12, 2023. 

Keller United Methodist Church is providing an opportunity to Troop 1910, Crew 1910, Ship 1910, Pack 1910 and Troop 1920 to serve at their Sunday services to recognize the impact of Scouting within the church body of Keller UMC.

Youth would be greeters/ushers to help recognize and demonstrate our commitment to the Scout Law being Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Cheerful and, most importantly, Reverent.

TWO STEPS TO RSVP AND REGISTER: 

1) To select which service your scout will participate in, click the link to complete the Google Form below. This is being coordinated by Troop 1910 so while we ARE tracking RSVPs here it's merely for patch purposes), the RSVP on Scoutbook does NOT register you for the event.

2) RSVP on Scoutbook so WE can internally track who is planning to attend so that those who DO go know who they can look for -- if you will list the SERVICE TIME YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND IN THE COMMENTS that will help tremendously 

Participation as a volunteer at Keller UMC (or at your home religious institution) on Scout Sunday would qualify Scouts to receive the Scout Sunday patch pictured above. 

(Participation can be as much as wearing your full Scout uniform to service at your home church if you're not able to serve in another way.)

There are TWO services your Scout may serve at. Only choose one. You will need to attend with your scout (not serve, but be present as their guardian).  You will need to register your scout HERE  Registration for this service opportunity are on a first-come, first-served basis.

So "officially" it's February 8, but large church organizations can schedule this day any day in February. The United Methodist Church (organization) has officially scheduled it for February 14. 

As part of our commitment to giving back to our Chartered Organization, our units (Troop 1910, Crew 1910, Ship 1910, Pack 1910 and Troop 1920) would generally provide volunteers at each of the services held on a specific Saturday and Sunday of each year to continually recognize the impact of Scouting within the church body of Keller UMC.

Youth would be greeters/ushers to help recognize and demonstrate our commitment to the Scout Law being Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Cheerful and, most importantly, Reverent.

Participation as a volunteer at our Chartered Organization (or at your home religious institution) on Scout Sunday would qualify Scouts to receive the Scout Sunday patch pictured above. However, we are still in a holding pattern this year to know what we're able to do. I will be communicate our involvement in observance of Scout Sunday at Keller UMC. 

(Participation can be as much as wearing your full Scout uniform to service at your home church if you're not able to serve in another way.)  We are considering a service project to commemorate this date but will be communicating information as it's determined by church officials.

As part of our commitment to giving back to our Chartered Organization, our units (Troop 1910, Crew 1910, Pack 1910 and Troop 1910) provide volunteers at each of the services held Saturday, 2/16 and Sunday, 2/17 to continually recognize the impact of Scouting within the church body of Keller UMC.

Youth will be greeters/ushers to help recognize and demonstrate our commitment to the Scout Law being Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Cheerful and Reverent.

Participation as a volunteer at our Chartered Organization on Scout Sunday qualifies Scouts to receive the Scout Sunday patch pictured above. Your family needn't be a member of the church for your Scout to participate, just a registered Scout of our Unit.  If you choose to participate in your home church as part of their Scout Sunday services, please communicate that with your den leader.

You will need to officially sign up to volunteer through a link that will be provided on the Scoutbook event so that Ms. Smariga, our Chartered Organization Representative, may track and communicate with volunteers as needed.

For those wanting to participate, full Field Uniform is required.

This year we will also have a special recognition of our Scouts who have earned their religious emblems this year with Mrs. Sheri Tull facilitating the God & Me and God & Family classes for our Unit.

Youth will be greeters/ushers to help recognize and demonstrate our commitment to the Scout Law being Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Cheerful and Reverent.

Participation qualifies Scouts to receive the Scout Sunday patch pictured above. Your family needn't be a member of the church for your Scout to participate, just a registered Scout of our Unit.

You need to officially sign up through the link below so that Mr. Hearrell, our Chartered Organization Representative, may track and communicate with volunteers as needed.

Scout Sunday

Thank you to all of our Pack, Troop and Crew members who participated in the Scout Sunday services at United Methodist Church of Keller.  Seeing the faces of our membership in acts of selfless service, I believe, helps bring home the message of why we do what we do!

Scout Sunday

You may have heard us discuss Scout Sunday or perhaps have seen some of the e-mails about it but you may not know exactly what Scout Sunday is or what purpose it serves or what exactly is the point of this day or observance.

Basically, on Scout Sunday, uniformed Scouts and Scouters across the country will greet their congregations, participate in worship services, receive religious awards and conduct service projects to benefit their place of worship and the community at large.

Scout Sunday is special for units such as ours that are chartered by a religious organization because it gives us a chance to be visible within the church body on a day meant to highlight and embrace the partnership between the church and the BSA units chartered therein. 

Members of other units that are not chartered by a religious organization will use this date to seek out opportunities to be of service on Scout Sunday in their own houses of worship as part of their Duty to God.  We are blessed to be part of a church home that welcomes our service to their organization.

Our Chartered Organization, First United Methodist Church of Keller, welcomes our scouts and leaders to wear their Field Uniform and volunteer in various capacities at their services held Saturday and Sunday of Scout Sunday weekend. If you are not familiar with your church's Scout Sunday protocol or if there is not one in place, this would be a great time to reach out to the church leadership and find out how you can help promote scouting within your own church home.  The link above will give you examples of things to do.

Nationally, Scout Sunday falls on the Sunday before February 8 (which would be February 5 this year).  Because, as you know, February 8 is the anniversary of Scouting in America (or if you didn't, now you do!)

Scouts that wear their uniforms to church on Scout Sunday will earn a Scout Sunday patch for their brag vest. Please be sure to notify your den leader if you attend and serve.

Scout Sunday

A Scout is Reverent.

Scout Sunday is already one of the highlights of the BSA year. But Scout Sunday 2015 promises to be even more special. That’s because this year’s Scout Sunday falls on February 8, the BSA’s birthday. (The Boy Scouts of America was founded on Feb. 8, 1910.) The last time Scout Sunday fell on Feb. 8 was in 2009. It won’t happen again until 2026.

So there’s extra incentive to make this year’s celebration even more meaningful. On Scout Sunday, uniformed Scouts and Scouters across the country will greet the congregation, participate in worship services, receive religious awards and conduct service projects to benefit their place of worship.

The goal: Thank the religious institution for their service as the unit’s chartered organization.

Some religious institutions and the Scout units they serve have a Scout Sunday plan that’s been in place for years. If so, great.

Our Chartered Organization, First United Methodist Church of Keller, welcome our scouts to wear their full Field Uniform and come participate in their services.  If you are not familiar with your church's Scout Sunday protocol, this would be a great time to reach out to the church leadership and find out how  you can help promote scouting within your own church home.
